A physical and cinematic
experience to tell human stories
through the lens of football.

A close, football fanatical friend and associate
of Grandslam, Findlay Marks asked us to brand
his passion project, the London Football Film Festival,
a place where football and film fans can converge.

For football and film
fans alike, the London Football
Film Festival is a stage to
celebrate both football
and film-making culture.

We set out to create a vivid identity
that celebrated 
football in motion in a simple
and beautiful way with a visual language
full of football and film references.

A high-level strategy
that would help us consider 
the cross-segment of film
and football audiences
we wanted to target.

Whilst reflecting a celebration that understands
football and film is for everyone, we wanted to create
an identity and help to build a brand that was true
to the creativity of film fans and the often
immeasurable passion of football fans.

Combining a literal visualisation
of film, and the focal point
from all football games to hold
typography that feels
like it's motion.

Not only an amalgamation of a segment
of film and a goal frame, the logo, whilst simple in execution
also holds a reference film and football fans may see differently.
The coloured circle in the top right can be seen by football
fans as a ball heading for the 'top right bin',
but also as a 'cue mark' by film fans.

A structured extended font
with enough weights to give
the impression of movement.

Pilat Extended is a beautiful and versatile font
that's geometric structure helps to reference
the rectangular shape of the goal
and the long strips of old cinematic film.

In application, the identity
continues to visually reflect
symbols of film and football,
whilst also extending colours
from the movie posters
of films that are being shown.

From the logos, font and colour palette to the film posters,
goal net graphic language and film strip graphic device,
the wide variety of assets helps create an identity and brand
that's flexible, meaning it can live far longer than a more
static, monolithic brand ever could.

Grandslam’s work on branding has been
completely transformative in bringing our film
festival to life. The understanding of our core
values helped to create a genuinely unique,
bold, and eye-catching visual style to launch
our festival from.

Our event would not be the success
that it is without Grandslam’s work
and it was absolutely crucial in helping
us find our voice.
